Thought For The Day:
I'm a thrift shopper! I love Goodwill, and other thrift stores of the like. I love the thrill of finding an amazing secondhand item that I didn't pay full price for.

Today I thought about what secondhand really meant. Webster defines it as such: received form or through an intermediary; borrowed; acquired after being used by another; not new.

I thought about so many other things that we obtain secondhand besides clothing and items purchased at a thrift shop. What about personality traits, characteristics, habits, societal issues, faith, etc.? What about gaining the above mentioned things secondhand is good and/or bad? I mean I know that we are influenced by things on a daily basis. We see, hear, smell, taste, and touch things on a daily basis that allow us to make informed decisions. However, I am not really talking about the things that help to shape who we become. I am more so speaking of those things that are given to us without allowing us to have the option to personally encounter things on our own.

I'll use faith as an example. I am diving into an interesting read called "You Lost Me; Why Young Christians Are Leaving Church...And Rethinking Faith", by David Kinnaman. The research included within is eye  opening. The following quote explains: "Adults identify as Christians typically because they had formative experiences as a child or as a teenager that connected them to Christianity. But that connection is often shallow and on the surface, having more to do with cultural identification than it does with deep faith."

The book is specifically looking at the Christian faith, but we could flip that and look at anything in that light. Are we who we are (good and/or bad) because we have had an experience that makes us that way on our own or are we who we are because we have learned that particular behavior from others?

I know that this is impossible, but I wonder what a child who has had no outside influence of others would become. They would be birthed by parents, but the parents would not be around, nor would their parents DNA be a factor. They would be born in a world with the essentials (food & shelter). There would be no animals to take the child on as their own, and as they grew they would have the innate ability to care for themselves.

The scenario is so hypothetical, and I will never get the answer, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about it. Out of the box, random, and odd I know...but a thought nonetheless!

On My Work Desk:
I've started the fourth and final piece in the sunset series. It doesn't look like much at the moment, but it is shaping up quite nicely. I am a bit farther along than what is depicted here. My progress will be posted soon!

Hope

About This Piece
These Round Bronze Chain earrings have been here before, but I thought they needed a little more air play! The round gilded pewtered like bronze piece is from the bracelet above, and the hanging chain is from a necklace. Neither of the pieces were broken when I received them, but I wanted to add my little flair to them, as usual :)

The price of this item is $18 (tax and shipping not included), and please remember that the paypal button under the earrings are ONLY for these Round Bronze Chain earrings.  There will be posts following with other jewelry available to purchase, and in the event it is needed, a return policy is at the end of this post. Thought For The Day:
It's hard to believe that September has gone and October has arrived!

As I have posted about in the past, I have gotten rid of my TV. Since I have done such, an occasional movie is in order. And over the past few days the movie the Hunger Games has been in my DVD player. The movie was okay, but there was a line in the movie that stood out like a sore thumb to me. The line was so simple, but rang so true. "The only thing stronger than fear is hope."

The particular line was so intriguing to me that I could hardly focus on the rest of the movie. The man was basically stating if the one in charge of the games gave the main character too much hope, then her fear would be banished.

I thought about the definition of hope. The dictionary defines hope to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence, to believe, desire, or to trust.  I then immediately connected hope with the biblical definition of faith (Hebrews 11:1). Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  I then linked hope to my purpose.

Connecting the word showed me that there is without a shadow of a doubt a certainty that comes along with hope. A certainty that allows me to trust what I have been put on this earth for purpose. A certainty that fear is unable to keep me from accomplishing that purpose. A certainty that allows me to know that just because I may not be able to see the beginning, middle or end of something does not mean that it does not exist.

So from now on I will be concerned about each day as each day is presented to me, toting hope along! I will allow it to be at the forefront of my mind while being guided by God!

Thought For The Day:
The fall season is quickly approaching. School has started, the weather is cooling down, and allergies are wreaking havoc on folks sinuses.

In the past, fall hasn't been my favorite of seasons. It reminds me that winter is right around the corner. And honestly, I could do without the winter season...at least the snow. This go round I wrap my arms around the fall season like a lover embraces their object of affection. It marks a fresh start for me. I am letting go of some things, people, and thoughts. I am adopting and implementing new habits that will become mainstays.

This morning as I was leaving a client the leaves were on the ground, which to me is a sure sign of fall. It reminded me of a few things.  Here in the NJ it rained. As the ground started to dry, the wet fallen leaves were the last to dry, leaving a wet ring that surrounds them. It reminded me that in this new season, I am covered. Like the leaves, God has surrounded me with just what I need to make it through this upcoming season. There is nothing that can change that. And when I have completed this season and ready for the next, I will be carried by His fresh wind to the next part of the journey, just as a the dry leaf is carried to its next destination.

Blankness

About This Piece
These earrings have also been here before. The metal piece come from a broken belt, and the stone in the middle is a light gray quartz.

Thought For The Day:
Sometimes blankness...the blank canvas to a painter, the blank screen to a writer, the blank face to a makeup artist, the blank crowd to an entertainer, the blank mind of the creative, and so forth and so on, can be so intimidating. Okay, let's say a lot intimidating.

Blankness hasn't really incapacitated me for a while, but as any artist knows, a blank state of mind can happen at any time. It's true! Since I haven't been in that space in a while, I thought about what I have done in the past to get over that hump, and what I would do in the future when it happens.

I think the solution came pretty clearly. Then, I just continued on, and when that place comes again, I will do the same. I read a blog post by another blogger by the name of Kathleen Roeth over at tapestry316. She reminded me that there should be nothing to hold one down from creating. "Seriously... don't let *stuff* keep you so busy that days pile into weeks without time to create." She gave several great ideas of what to do in order to overcome brief moments of creative brain farts. You can read her listed ideas on the post Out of the Art Box and on the Table.

It all boiled down to the famous NIKE saying...just do it! So today try something new and create new brain pathways!

Thanks for reading, commenting, following and purchasing! Until next post....

Sacrifice

The price of this item is $18 (tax and shipping not included), and please remember that the paypal button under the earrings are ONLY for these Chain Chandelier Earrings.  There will be posts following with other jewelry available to purchase, and in the event it is needed, a return policy is at the end of this post. About This Piece
These chandelier earrings have been here before! I didn't sketch a concept for these earrings out in my journal, although I sketched it out plenty of times in my head. The execution was pretty effortless, and the finished product was what I hoped it would be.

The main oval shaped piece hails from a belt that was purchased from a broken lot of jewelry. The chain pieces came from a necklace (shown above) that was in the lot of jewelry given to me by one of my mentors.

Thought For The Day:
I am convinced that everything great comes with some sort of sacrifice!

Before this season I thought I knew what sacrifice was. The reality is though, I had no clue what the word meant. It was just a cute word for me to say to put up a front for others that I was putting things away that were preventing me from growing in life, but mainly my purpose.

In this season of sacrifice, I am thinking about sacrificing the TV in my room. I almost don't believe that I am saying that, but I am. In the past few weeks I have done without cable for the most part. I had to get rid of DISH. It didn't fit in the budget for this new season of sacrifice and was just another bill that was robbing my pockets and my time.

So in getting rid of DISH I thought that it would be great to get rid of the TV in my room altogether. I have always heard that it was best to use your bedroom for sleep only, and I think that I am ready to try that theory out in some form or fashion.

I really do get more done without mindlessly watching TV. I am more creative and even more at peace. I will have more space for the mountains of items that I have, and when I do watch TV it will be with purpose.

Let's face it...there are several other TVs in my home, I still have Netflix, and the internet if I want to watch something special. Ultimately I do believe that I am probably setting myself up for a wonderful marriage free of the TV in my future love nest! What a lesson and more importantly, what a sacrifice!

Ready to make that change!

And while I am on the subject of sacrifice, I want to thank a couple that is special to me. They sacrifice much, and today sacrificed greatly! God hears the cries of His children, often answers in mysterious ways, and when we least expect it!  I love the Stewards, and am so grateful for them on so many levels!!!

Thanks for reading, commenting, purchasing and following! Until next post...
