Vending At The Piazza:
Yesterday a dear friend of mine (Melissa) and I participated in a Bazaar at the Piazza at the Schmidt's in the Northern Liberties area of Philadelphia. She sold her Flower Fairy accessories and of course I sold Exo31 Art creations. I did a lot of networking and made some new contacts, which I am looking forward to staying in touch with and perhaps collaborating with.

Thought For The Day:
I talk about a lot about the small things that God uses to give me big revelations. And today I got another one. I have the awesome opportunity to spend some time with some pretty special young people this week. As I traveled to their home, I found myself lost. Never mind that they live in the same zip code, and even the same neighborhood. Go figure! And before you laugh too hard...I wasn't terribly lost, and it didn't take me hours to find my way either.

The bottom line is...I was lost. It was strange because I always found myself lost going and not leaving. And so this morning on my way out I got a good revelation!

Starting something new and mapping your way through that something new is often the hardest part of the journey. It takes courage, and faith, and tenacity, and humbleness, and a whole slew of other amazing character traits needed to combat fear, apprehension and uncertainties that come along with something new.

The amazing thing about something new is that at some point it is no longer new. There is a grove that takes place and it becomes routine. The fear and anxiety that was once attached to new dissipates, and often things start to fall in place and become far clearer.

So as I traveled out of the neighborhood with ease I realized that the newness that life has thrown me at this point is part of the journey. I'm just settling into who I am created to be. It's not meant to break, but to build. It's not a place to get stuck in, but a place to learn, appreciate, and move on from.

My destiny awaits...and I run to meet it with gladness!

Pearls Of Wisdom:
Pursuing your destiny is not to be trifled with. Fulfillment will never take place without pursuing it. Everyone has one...will you run to yours with fervor?

Be blessed!

Thought For The Day:
A few posts ago I talked about how sometimes it takes a few no's to get to the yes that opens the door to your destiny. Well, this past weekend I got a "no". I didn't blog about this opportunity really. It was a more artistic community in where I was looking to sell my jewelry and scarfs. It seemed like a great opportunity, but at the end of the day, it was still a no. They gave no specific reason as to why, but just that they weren't looking for my "type" of product at the moment. Yup...it stung a bit. However, I chalk it up to a better opportunity down the pike. So, despite the "no", I will continue on in search of the yes!

On My Work Desk:
The finished products of the paintings posted on Friday. The first one is 8x10 and done on canvas covered board. The painting is sitting on the planks of the painting in the last picture. The third painting is done on five wooden planks. Here they are shown together, but they will be separated with about an inch in between each of them. I am thinking that I want it to be displayed vertically as oppose to horizontally, but that has yet to be determined.

The Early Bird

This eggplant/brown summer scarf is made of blended fibers. It is a bit heavier than some of the other scarfs, but still appropriate for this time of year. As with the others previously posted, it is a little over 25 inches long and is perfect for casual or semi-casual wear.

Thought For The Day:
Good AM World! By the time this post goes out, it will be about 8am. I have been at my office (Starbuck's) for about 30 minutes. That means that I will have a good 3 hours to get some things done before getting to my massage clients.

I managed to accomplish a few things this morning before leaving the house. It's pretty amazing that God has chosen to show me some detailed things within the span of a week. On Monday I understood what a husband who is chasing after his dreams may feel like. Momentarily I felt what I can imagine being the heart wrentching weight of him having to leave the home not knowing if his dream will be enough to support his family one day, but still feeling the urge to keep pushing. Then today I understood what it may feel like to be a mother. I got up, spent time with God, cooked, cleaned, did some laundry, prepared for the day and was out the door...all before 7am! I managed to multitask beautifully, and now spending time on this thing called purpose.

So today is gearing up to be absolutely splendid! I may start to run out of gas before the day is over, but I have no time to think about that right now. The push is on, and I am riding its wave steadily!

On My Work Desk:
I have been really into shapes, patterns and colors for the last few years. These patterns I posted about a week ago in a sketch. I have started to act upon those sketches and here is the start. The planks are a part of another painting surrounding the same pattern.

The Courage To Continue

Front & back view

Burnished parts for the toggle

The dress I got the charms from. You can see where I took the charms off!

SOLD
This beauty was sold to a woman by the name of Katie at the Piazza at the Schmidt's Bazaar that Exo31 Art took part in on Sunday, August 26th! Thanks Katie for supporting local artists!

Although this bracelet is sold, stay tuned because there will be posts following with other bracelets available to purchase. Also, please remember that Exo31 Art jewelry is recreated from other broken or unwanted pieces. That means that most pieces are one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. If you are looking for other items that are for sale, please hit the for sale label on the left side of this blog. That will bring up all the items that are currently for sale!

I posted this bracelet before. It's a beautiful piece. The circle portion of the toggle comes from a broken belt, and the end of the toggle comes from a bracelet that I took apart. I burnished the created toggle to create a worn look. I saw so much potential in these charms on the dress a friend gave me. The dress fared well without them too! I took the jump rings off a broken belt, and the chain is from another piece of broken jewelry from the lot I purchased a few years ago.

Thought For The Day:
I woke up this morning feeling the sting of the blows that come along with pursuing this creative vision I have been given. I thought (like I have so often) it would be so much easier to get a 9 to 5, but who am I kidding? I am not built for that. I am miserable in that atmosphere...zapped of energy and creativity.

I often wonder if I have enough courage to continue with this journey, but today asked God this very same thing, and cried out for courage. Well, here I am...at my office (Starbuck's) pushing past my feelings and getting work done!

While I hate feeling this way, I understand its origin. This weekend was absolutely amazing from Friday to Sunday. As Proverbs 18:16 tells us, " A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great."  I yielded to my gifts this weekend and gave them freely, and indeed I was in the presence of greatness! Doors were opened, and I look forward to many more opening as a result.

Performance painting done on Saturday for a wow renewal ceremony. Thank you Nate & Thilana Chandler for this awesome opportunity! They used a print of the painting as wedding favors!

So despite this temporary rough patch, I have my game face on...time to win! Until next post...

I have been getting a lot of you asking about these color and pattern/design study paintings. Yes...these are for sale! The cost of the individual panel at the top is $30 (tax and shipping not included) including a basic frame. The buy now button is only for the individual Red/Aqua 3x5 Swirl painting above. There will be posts following with other paintings available to purchase, and the return policy is the same as that for Exo31 Art, LLC jewelry. Thought For The Day:
It sometimes takes a few no's to get to the yes that opens the door to your destiny. It's all about the press! An invention, product, skill or technique that you are convinced needs to be out there becomes the driving force. It's all about the press!

I remember reading an article not too long ago about successful entrepreneurs that did not get a formal education, finish high school or go to college. Remembering the article made me do a little research. It turns out that there are a ton of successful business owners that had very little or no formal education.

Dave Thomas - founder of Wendy's - dropped out of high school
Madam C.J. Walker - inventor of the hot comb - very little formal education & self taught
Frank Lloyd Wright - most influential architect of the 20th century - never attended high school
Benjamin Banaker - inventor of the almanac - no more than an 8th grade education
Charles Culpeper - owner & CEO of Coca Cola - dropped out of high school
Mary Kay Ash - founder of Mary Kay Inc. - never attended college
Issac Merrit Singer - inventor of sewing machine and founder of Singer - elementary school dropout
Marcus Loew - multimillionaire founder of Loews theatres/co-founder of MGM movie studios - elementary school dropout
Milton Hershey - founder of Hershey's milk chocolate - 4th grade education
Abraham Lincoln - lawyer,  U.S President - finished 1 year of formal schooling, self taught in trigonometry, read Blackstone on his own to become a lawyer
Frederick M. Jones - inventor of the air conditioner, mechanically refrigerated truck, and owner of 60 patent - 8th grade education

Not only that, let's take a look at some artists

Andy Wharhol - American pop artist - received a rejection letter from MoMA
Jean Michel Basquiat - American graffiti artist - dropped out of high school at 10th grade
Julie Andrews - Oscar-winning actress, singer, author - dropped out of high school
Louis Armstrong - jazz musician, singer - dropped out of high school
Jane Austen - novelist - attended schools in Oxford, Southampton, and Reading until 11. After she was self taught by her father at home and never  attended college
Josephine Baker - singer, dancer, actress - dropped out of school at 12
Liz Claiborne - fashion designer - never finished high school
Claude Monet - French painter - elementary school dropout
Walt Whitman - best-selling American poet - elementary school dropout
Gloria Vanderbilt - designer-artist, author - dropped out of high school

The list goes on and on. I don't have enough space here or time to list the many that I have found and those that aren't even listed. The bottom line is that they all pressed!

So...the press is on for me! All it takes is one open door to get the ball rolling! Here is to that open door and the ball that will never stop rolling!

Check back soon! Keep reading! Follow and comment! Until next post...

Sketch of The Day:
A pattern design that I am getting into. Can you tell what my inspiration was? There will be paintings coming soon!

Thought For The Day:
It's mid morning here in NJ, and it's rather gloomy, but I am feeling super creative! I am actually feeling much like I can do anything, which is a good thing since I have so much to take care of.

I mentioned a book in an earlier post called "Imagine" by Jonah Lehrer. It's a pretty deep book that unfolds a little more scientifically how creativity works. As I was reading a chapter called The Unconcealing yesterday I was floored by how many similarities I had with some great artists.

It goes into the idiosyncrasies of a legendary graphic designer who came up with the infamous I (heart) NY campaign. He, much like myself, used whatever medium he needed to in order to get his point across. “ Glaser has no defining style. He isn’t a minimalist or a maximalist, a realist or a cartoonist. (‘I distrust styles’, he says. ‘To have a style is to be trapped.’) Instead, Glaser treats each assignment as a unique problem with its own requirements and constraints. He doesn’t know what the answer will look like or what kind of image it will require.”

I completely understand how Glaser feels. Working with just one medium or just in one particular style definitely makes me feel like a caged bird begging to be free. I paint, draw, design, etc. how I feel, and to do anything less is like committing a highway robbery. I understand that sometimes in this industry I may have to bend to fit the mold, but for the most part, I am stern about not fitting in the box if it doesn't lend to how I feel.

So here is to using different mediums to express who I was created to be!

Until next post...ta ta! Don't forget to share, comment and follow!

Sketch Of The Day:
I had been trying to sketch this all week. I took it on as a 30 min sketch. I like the image and took some artistic liberties with it.
