Thought For The Day:

This year, I have decided to create my own 2013 calendar. Yes it took some time. As a matter of fact, I took more time than I probably should have taken on it. But the reality is that I wanted to make a calendar that had what I wanted and needed in it.

In addition to containing a month/weeks in review and monthly budgets, it contains what I like to call a monthly to-do lists. The list consists of goals, plans of actions, and achievements for each month. I have decided to make you all privy to some things on this list in order to keep myself accountable. I find that I do best when I spell what I need to do out and tell others. That way it keeps folks open to ask every once and a while where I am with the things I say that I am going to do.

I will post in the beginning of the month some goals and then at the end of the month I will post my progress on the goals I set in the beginning of the month.

So here goes for this chilly month of October:
- Finish artist resumé
- Post here at least 3 times per week
- Contact at least 2 cafés to see about hanging my artwork in their establishment
- Keep connected with the social media outlets that I am subscribed to

It's hard to believe that September has gone and October has arrived!

As I have posted about in the past, I have gotten rid of my TV. Since I have done such, an occasional movie is in order. And over the past few days the movie the Hunger Games has been in my DVD player. The movie was okay, but there was a line in the movie that stood out like a sore thumb to me. The line was so simple, but rang so true. "The only thing stronger than fear is hope." 

The particular line was so intriguing to me that I could hardly focus on the rest of the movie. The man was basically stating if the one in charge of the games gave the main character too much hope, then her fear would be banished. 

I thought about the definition of hope. The dictionary defines hope to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence, to believe, desire, or to trust.  I then immediately connected hope with the biblical definition of faith (Hebrews 11:1). Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  I then linked hope to my purpose.

Connecting the word showed me that there is without a shadow of a doubt a certainty that comes along with hope. A certainty that allows me to trust what I have been put on this earth for purpose. A certainty that fear is unable to keep me from accomplishing that purpose. A certainty that allows me to know that just because I may not be able to see the beginning, middle or end of something does not mean that it does not exist.

So from now on I will be concerned about each day as each day is presented to me, toting hope along! I will allow it to be at the forefront of my mind while being guided by God!

Thought For The Day:

As I sit here reading myself to publish a post that I have previously saved, to my chagrin, it is gone! In knowing that it is gone, I realize I have 2 choices. I could either freak out, throw a few things around, and scream at the top of my lungs; or I could sit, relax and type out a whole new post.

I decide to do the later of the options above. It’s funny that I have been presented with this particular option today. I should or could be seething with anger, and if truth be told, I am doing some pretty hefty breathing exercises so that I don’t get to that point. But then reality hits. What good is being angry going to do? It’s not going to magically bring back the words that are lost. At best it will raise my blood pressure a few notches, and intensify the headache that has been nagging me the past few days from pressure in my traps. In the grand scheme of things perhaps what I was going to talk about was not what needed to be posted anyway.

In making the later choice, I make some adjustments. I knew this before, but know it more even now…websites can be fickle. Instead of writing my posts directly on the site, I will write them in word, save them, and then cut and paste them into the site. That will save me a whole lot of agita!

This choice wasn’t so bad. I learned something, took a stroll back down memory lane while drinking a hot cup of caramel apple cider from my office, and managed to get this post out. It works out in my favor!!!

Thought For The Day:

Before I know it, it will be 9pm. Today I have managed to get a few things done. I have even managed to fit in an hour long walk, which was much needed to put some things in perspective.

Before my walk I put a post on FB that simply said this, "Life is good! Not perfect, but good. The sun in shining, Daidi and I are cool, I have family and friends that I love dearly and they love me the same, business is picking up, and my social calendar is full. But it's the strangest thing, it feels like something is missing."

That's where I was, and to some extent, that is where I am at the moment. It's almost like there is this void that is unfulfilled, and I just can't figure out exactly what that void is...if indeed there is one. I feel okay. I don't feel sad or angry. I just feel a little perplexed.

I have felt this way before. I am unsure of what I did (if anything) to make it over this feeling. I think I surmised it to be just that...a hump. A hump that I would eventually bulldoze over or smooth out. A hump that wasn't all that significant, since I can't remember how I managed to get over it. It just proves that once over one hump it's easier to get over the other humps.

So I am determined to demolish this hump that I can't quite identify! The bulldozer is cranked and ready to ride!

On My Work Desk:

This weekend I had the pleasure of doing a live painting at the All In Café Night. It was hosted by the music ministry at Victory in Christ Christian Center in Deptford, NJ. I happen to be a partner, but was honored that I was asked to lend my gift for the evening.

I was a little frazzled about what I was to paint before the event happened, and didn't get clarity until about 3 hours before the event started. And even then, it wasn't total clarity. I had bits and pieces. I was supposed to paint this a while ago, and I neglected to. As I sat quiet before God, He brought to my remembrance that He is the vine and we are the branches. His glorious roots grow deep so that we may bear fruit. Here is the outcome!

I will be making prints of this painting.

Thought For The Day:

The fall season is quickly approaching. School has started, the weather is cooling down, and allergies are wreaking havoc on folks sinuses.

In the past, fall hasn't been my favorite of seasons. It reminds me that winter is right around the corner. And honestly, I could do without the winter season...at least the snow. This go round I wrap my arms around the fall season like a lover embraces their object of affection. It marks a fresh start for me. I am letting go of some things, people, and thoughts. I am adopting and implementing new habits that will become mainstays.

This morning as I was leaving a client the leaves were on the ground, which to me is a sure sign of fall. It reminded me of a few things.  Here in the NJ it rained. As the ground started to dry, the wet fallen leaves were the last to dry, leaving a wet ring that surrounds them. It reminded me that in this new season, I am covered. Like the leaves, God has surrounded me with just what I need to make it through this upcoming season. There is nothing that can change that. And when I have completed this season and ready for the next, I will be carried by His fresh wind to the next part of the journey, just as a the dry leaf is carried to its next destination.

This is a new piece that has lots of mixed pieces. The metal circles on the front of the bracelet are part of a chain belt. The attached bronze chain pieces inside the circles come from a necklace, and the piece of chain on the sides connected to the toggle come from a belt as well. 

Thought of The Day:

A few days ago it was September 11th...the anniversary of such a tragic event that killed plenty of folks 11 years ago, and all I can think about are random thoughts. Truthfully, I am not even sure the random thoughts would make any sense to anyone other than myself right now!

I guess for the most part my mind drifts towards my resolve to do this thing I call my purpose.

I am taking you on a ride through transparency lane. Sometimes I am not sure if this world will catch on to what God has given me to give. Sometimes I am not sure if I have the stamina to create until that "yes" comes. Sometimes the feeling of stability can't come fast enough, although I am unsure if being comfortable is something that is good for me.

At the end of the day...I JUST WANT TO CREATE! I want to create without thinking about anything else, but creating. I don't want to have to think about where funding is going to come from. I don't want to have to worry about coming up with a savvy sales pitch so that folks will buy, and I don't want to have to think about customizing my creations so much that they are no longer my creations.

All that may sound a bit unreasonable, unrealistic and perhaps even a little lazy in some aspects. It's so true though. I simply want to share where I have been, where I am, and where I am going through this creative outlet that God has given me.
